DEWITTVILLE – Adele Nickerson, 96, formerly of Dewittville, NY passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at the home of her daughter, Ellen in Bemus Point, NY surrounded by family. She was born on March 29, 1921 in Mayville, the daughter of the late John and Lillian Degenfelder. Adele Graduated from Mayville Central School in 1940. She was married on June 25, 1945 to Earnest C. Nickerson who preceded her in death in August of 2007. She was a self-employed owner and operator of Midway Garden Center in Maple Springs, NY for approximately 45 years. Adele was a life member of the St. Mary of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mayville. She enjoyed spending her winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. An avid doll collector which she enjoyed creating and painting for her grandchildren.
Mother of Cal (Debbie) Nickerson, Eva (Dale) Johnson, Andrew "Butch" (Lynn) Nickerson, Elizabeth Brei, Ellen (Dan) Tyler, and Emma (James) Duncanson. Grandmother "Gee" to Elisa (Mike) Wasberg, Dale (Becky) Johnson Jr, Christine (Ryan) Carlson, Lindsay (James) Simpson, Daniel (Amanda) Tyler Jr., Erin (Tony) Guiffreda, James Duncanson and, Emelia Duncanson. Great grandmother of Jake, Tage and Abriella Wasberg, Teagan and Ellie Johnson, Ben and Zack Carlson, Aiden and Liam Simpson and Meghan Pauley.
She is additionally preceded in death by her sister Coletta Degenfelder ,infant son Paul Christopher and infant grandson Andrew.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 25, 2017, from 2-6pm at the Freay Funeral Home, 139 South Erie Street, Mayville, NY 14757. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday June 26 at 10am at Sacred Heart Parish, 380 Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750.
Officiants will be Fr. Piotr Zaczynski, Pastor, Fr. Raymond Donohue and assisted by Deacon Daniel Tyler Sr.
Burial will be in Dewittville Cemetery.
