MAYVILLE- Alma A. Rose Shepard, 90, of Mayville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at the Absolut Care for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Westfield, NY. She was born January 28, 1933, in Latrobe, PA, the daughter of the late J. Lawrence and Alma Dahl Rose.

Alma graduated from Ligonier High School in 1950. Soon after graduation, she left PA to go to Washington DC where a sister lived, and to work for the federal government. During that time, she met her husband-to-be, Gerald B. Shepard, who was stationed at a nearby Air Force base. They were married in Ligonier, PA in 1952. After his tour of duty ended in 1954, they moved near his home in Mayville, NY.

She worked for the former Board of Supervisors and Chautauqua County Legislature for over thirty years, retiring as Clerk in 1990. After retirement, Alma wintered in N. Fort Meyers, FL.

Alma was a member of St Mark's Lutheran Church in Mayville, NY, the Mayville Senior Citizens, the William L. Travis Mayville American Legion Auxiliary, the Loyal Order of the Moose in Westfield, NY, and the Thule Lodge #127 in Bemus Point, NY.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald B. Shepard, a daughter, Sharon Kay Shepard, a son, Brad Shepard, six brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Shepard Judson, numerous nieces and nephews, and close family friend, Alan Akin of Chautauqua.

The funeral will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St, Mayville, NY). The Rev. Patricia Guinn will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
