MAYVILLE – Ardeth Scott Riedesel, 84, of Munson Lane, Mayville, died Monday (January 5, 2015) at her home.
She was born in Omaha, Neb. on June 9, 1930 the daughter of the late Roland and Lida Wilson Scott.
Ardeth graduated from Central High School where she used her outstanding singing voice in many activities. She attended Cornell College where she met her husband Alan Riedesel, they were married when he graduated and she finished at Cornell in 1951. She received a Master's degree in Reading from SUNY at Buffalo.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville and also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi.
Over the years she had been active in Christian activities, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking from over 2000 cook books and was an avid reader. Her stamp was on every home she had. Women and men alike wanted to live in one of her homes. She was a master at home decoration and several of her homes were on tours. She loved her husband and her children and grandchildren. She was a loyal friend and was practical as she was creative.
She is survived by her husband Alan Riedesel, whom she married August 19, 1951 in Cornell, they were married for 63 years and liked to be thought of as the folks who lived on the hill. They held the records for holding hands. She is also survived by five children Christine (Kurt) Oesterling of Brookfield, Wis., Mark (Heather Palmer) Riedesel of Middleboro, Mass., Claudia (Bill) Notz of Columbus, OH, Matthew (Michelle) Riedesel of Anchorage, AK, and Craig (Connie) Riedesel of Mayville; grandchildren Lauren Oesterling, Courtney (Ben) Sweeney, Andrew Oesterling, Ian, Elise and Evan Riedesel.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville. Rev. Dr. Richard Elberfeld Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 6:30 pm Friday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
