MAYVILLE- Barbara J. Howe Thompson, 92, of Mayville, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at her daughter's home in Fairview, PA.
She was born March 28, 1925 in Dewittville, NY, the daughter of the late John and Lepha Cooper Howe.
Barbara had been a housewife. She was a member of the Mayville United Methodist Church, the Tuesday Club, Chautauqua Township Historical Society, Republican Women's, Christian Women's, Volunteered for the Red Cross, and worked as a Judge of Election in Harbor Creek for many years. Barbara's interests included knitting, crocheting, crafts, church work, traveling with her husband, Jerry, all over the world, and 30 years of living in Florida during the winters.
She is survived by a daughter; Judy (Peter) Lucero of Fairview, PA, four grandsons; Robert (Deb) Westcott of Olean, NY, Damien (Kristina) Westcott of Rochester, MN, John Hemmis of Washington, DC, and Jason (Paige) Hemmis of Edinburg, PA, two great grandsons; Max Hemmis and Harry Westcott, and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald A. Thompson, whom she married Sept. 21, 1945 in Dewittville, NY, and two sisters; Helen Biekert and Clydell Huber.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 11AM at the Freay Funeral Home, 139 S. Erie St, Mayville, NY. The Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery. There will be no visitation observed prior to the service.
