MAYVILLE- Betty Jane Besok Walters, 93, of Mayville and formerly of Olean, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 25, 2021.

She was born October 23, 1927 in Olean, NY; the daughter of the late John J. and Helen Reese Besok.

Betty graduated from Olean Highschool in 1945. She had worked for New York Telephone Company in Olean as an Operator; retiring as a clerk in their engineering department.  She also had a ceramic shop for many years and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, (donating many baby and children items to the local hospitals.) She enjoyed watching the birds that came to her front window birdfeeders, doing crossword puzzles, going to garage sales and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Mayville Senior Citizens, a life member of the Chautauqua Fire Department Auxiliary, and had previously worked as an election inspector for the Town of Chautauqua.

She is survived by four daughters; Bonnie Seth of Olean, Jacqueline (Robert) Wiley of Olean, Linda Corell of Portland, and Sandra Robinson of Portville, one son; Bruce Walters of Hinsdale, one daughter in law; Anne Walters of Mayville, twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband; Jack Hugh Walters, whom she married March 29, 1947 in Olean and they celebrated 70 years of marriage on March 29, 2017 (one month before he passed); one son; David Walters, one grandson; Michael Walters, two son-in-laws; Jim Corell and Dave Henneberger, one sister; Margaret Besok Shepley Carr; and four brothers; John, Bob, Gene, and Larry Besok.

A private graveside service will be held at the Chautauqua Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
