MAYVILLE – Betty Lou Zenns, 86, formerly of 10 Oak St., Mayville, died Friday (March 20, 2015) at Lutheran Skilled Nursing Home in Jamestown.
She was born July 9, 1928 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of the late Roy and Louise Unger Stoeltzing.
The most precious roles in Betty Lou's life were being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had been a waitress at the Peacock Inn in Mayville, clerk at Chautauqua County License Bureau, part-time over various years working at Webb's Candies, picking and tying grapes, and a secretary at Chautauqua County Health Department.
She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mayville and belonged to the Altar Guild, Martha Society, Choir, had been the church Secretary, and a Sunday School Teacher at church. She had also been a volunteer at Westfield Memorial Hospital, Helping Grandmother at Chautauqua Lake Central School, Girl Scout Troop Leader, member of American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries in Mayville, volunteer for Mayville Food Pantry, and Portage Hill Meals on Wheels.
Betty Lou enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, baking, knitting, music, participation in activities while at Lutheran Social Services including their choir, bell choir, and participating in the Children's Music Camp, and she used to enjoy going out for lunch and driving around with her sisters and friends
She is survived by her son, Michael (Colleen) Zenns of Austin, PA; two daughters, Martha (Gilbert Lindahl) Zenns of Jamestown, and Mary (Rod) Hunt of Mayville; a son in-law, Donald Turley of Hartfield; 10 grandchildren, Amy Allen of Sherman, Brandon Zenns of Sherman, Nathan Turley of Mayville, Jared Hunt of Endwell, NY, Anna Hunt of Mayville, Tara Hunt of Mayville, Jonathon Irby of Arizona, Ryan Irby of Arizona, David Gora of Indiana, and Paige McLaughlin of Austin, PA., and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Conrad Zenns whom she married June 26, 1948 in St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mayville and who died March 15, 1996; a daughter, Patricia Turley who died on July 19, 2009; two sisters, Virginia Harper and Eva Dudley; and one brother, Merle Stoeltzing.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday (April 18th) at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mayville. Rev. Ivy Gauvin, rector will officiate.
