MAYVILLE- Charles Arthur Tanner, 80, of Brocton and formerly of Mayville, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Absolut Care in Westfield.

He was born March 5, 1938 in Olean, NY, the son of the late Alfred and Marian Demming Tanner.

Charlie had worked as a machinist at Marlon Rockwell in Falconer, NY. He was a member of the Mayville Senior Citizens and a past member of the Chautauqua County CB Club.

He was always a hard worker who put others first. If someone was broke down on the side of the road he was the first to stop and offer to help. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and time with family and friends.

Charlie is survived by his four children; Chester (Kelly) Tanner of Brocton, Linda Sandburg of Westfield, Alice (Barry) Hill of Ellington, and John (Kristy) Tanner of Republic, MO, six siblings; Ruth Gruber, Charlotte Johnson, George Tanner, Wayne Tanner, Butch Tanner, and Laona Boser, a special friend; Lois Malloy, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter; Christine Pankin, an infant daughter; Bernice Elizabeth, a sister; Marianna Tressler, and a granddaughter; Melissa Davis.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 1PM at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Dan Prewitt will officiate. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for two hours before (11-1PM) the service at the funeral home.
