FINDLEY LAKE- David L. Himelein, 72, of Findley Lake, died Friday, April 5, 2019 at his home.

He was born December 15, 1946 in Erie, PA, the son of the late William D. and Frances M. Emory Himelein.

David had worked as an accountant for Welch Foods in Westfield, NY for 41 years.

He was a life member and past Chief of the Findley Lake Fire Department, a member and previous chairman of the Chautauqua County Fire Chiefs Association, a member and previous chairman of the Chautauqua County Fire Advisory Board, a member of the NYS Fire Chiefs Association, a Chautauqua County Legislature representing district 18 for which he was a previous chairman, a member of the Olive Lodge #575 Masons of Sherman, the Eastern Stars of Sherman, and served on the Mina-Findley Lake Historical Society.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, going to the ocean, and time with his family, especially his great granddaughter, Avery.

He is survived by his wife; Joan Rothwell Himelein, whom he married on October 16, 1976 in Westfield, NY, two daughters; Cynthia Dietzen of Jamestown, and Tracey Morgan of WV, two grandchildren; Ashley Becker of Stow, NY, and Cassaundra Laemmerhirt of Jamestown, one great grandchild; Avery Anderson of Stow, two brothers; William (Kirstin Walker) of Findley Lake, and Richard (Ann) Himelein of Murreysville, PA, one sister; Linda M (Ernest) Roache of Mina Corners, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Wendy Kathleen Himelein, and one brother; George Vernon Himelein.

The funeral will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the Findley Lake United Methodist Church (2862 N. Rd, Findley Lake, NY 14736. The Rev. David Cooke will officiate. Burial will be in the Mina Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8PM on Tuesday, April 9 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St), where an Eastern Stars service will be held at 7:30PM.
