WESTFIELD- Dennis W. Rathburn, 63, formerly of Barton St., Mayville, died Tuesday (March 28, 2017) at the Absolut Care of Westfield.
He was born January 9, 1954 in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Lawrence "Popeye" and Leah Higgs Rathburn.
Dennis attended Sherman Central School and was a graduate of Mayville Central School. He had worked in lawn maintenance, mowing lawns for several neighbors and friends and enjoyed gardening, and helping others. He always had a smile for everyone and really enjoyed visiting with people especially his good friends Larry Marsala and Donna Conway. He loved to spend time with his family, and was proud to share his birthday with one of his great-great nephews. His sense of humor will surely be missed by everyone that knew him.
He is survived by his two, "antique" sisters; Lois (Bill) Cummings of Clearfield, UT, and Donna Cady of Panama, two nieces; Brenda (Ken) Warnshuis of Clearfield UT, Wanda (Don) Latimer of Mayville, one nephew; Lyle (Michelle) Cummings of Warren, PA, four great nieces and nephews; Courtney and Colin Warnshuis of Clearfield, UT, Cody Latimer of Mayville, and Caitlyn (Shane Wick) Cummings of Findley Lake, two cousins; Beverly (Laverne) Harrington of Mayville, and Beth Textor of Mayville, as well as many great-great nieces, nephews and second cousins.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law and fellow prankster Howard Cady.
The funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, April 5 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Don Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Tuesday, April 4th at the funeral home, as well as for one hour before the service on Wednesday (10-11am).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mayville Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
