CHAUTAUQUA- Edna L. Brown, 87, of Chautauqua, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at her home.

She was born February 24, 1933 in Leesburg, VA, the daughter of the late Paul F. and Georgiana M. Jewtraw Kranking.

Edna was a 1950 graduate of Chautauqua Central School. She retired as a legal secretary having worked for R. Bard Schaack in Mayville for many years among other local attorneys. She also prepared taxes for many years as well.

She was a charter member, life member, past president, past secretary and current treasurer for the Lake Chautauqua Memorial VFW Auxiliary Post 8647, she was a member and treasurer of the Mayville Senior Citizens, a member of the North Harmony Senior Citizens, she was the treasurer for the Chautauqua Central School Alumni Association, a member of the Goodwill Club, previous president and a fifty year member of the Stedman Grange, a member of St. Mary of Lourdes RC Church in Mayville where she had been a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the William L. Travis Post 493 Mayville American Legion.

Edna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, counted cross stitch, and playing cards at the North Harmony Senior Center and at local restaurants with friends. Most of all she enjoyed time with her family.

She is survived by her four sons; Daniel (Mary) Brown of Richmond, KY, Timothy A. Brown of Chautauqua, John (Pamela) Brown of Panama, and David (Tracy) Brown of Sherman, eight grandchildren; Philip Brown, Erin Watkins, Valerie (Bill Roehm) Pedigo, Christopher Brown, Sarah Brown, Katrina (Dan) Leake, Lucas (Lizzie) Brown, and Jennifer (Nick) Fisher, ten great grandchildren, one brother; Paul "Ted" (Dorothy) Kranking, several nieces, nephews, and cousins and many dear and cherished friends.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband; Charles E. Brown, whom she married September 5, 1953 in Mayville, her parents, and one son; Philip Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10AM on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at St Mary of Lourdes RC Church in Mayville (22 East Chautauqua St). FH Todd Remick will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life at the North Harmony Senior Citizens center immediately following the service (5377 Stow Ferry Rd, Ashville, NY 14785).

Friends will be received from 4-7PM on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S Erie St).
