MAYVILLE- Edward Carl Mogenhan, 87, of Mayville, died Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL.

Ed was born January 8, 1932 in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Dr. John and Julia Smith Mogenhan.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country proudly during the Korean conflict.

In 1956 Ed met his adoring wife Audrey, and were lovingly married for 58 years.  Ed was a proud resident of Mayville for 56 years contributing to many civic activities and charitable organizations.

Ed worked as the Assistant Resident Engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation, in Mayville, for 38 years.  Upon retirement, Ed volunteered at the Westfield Hospital, read for the blind on Jamestown radio and worked many years at Chautauqua Institution.

Ed was a devoted member of the St. Mary of Lourdes RC Church in Mayville, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, the Vikings Lodge, the Jamestown War Vets, the American Legion, the VFW, and the Celeron Moose Lodge #2587.

He had been former president of the Mayville Library in which he was instrumental with the first addition of the library.  Ed was also a president of the Mayville little league and a coach where he took great pride helping the kids achieve their best both on and off the field.  He also enjoyed golfing at Chautauqua Point Golf Course, traveling and enjoying the view of Chautauqua Lake from his deck with friends and family.

Ed loved his family, was their greatest advocate and took pride in their successes.  He also is adored by his five grandchildren and was a constant presence throughout their lives.  They could always count on him to be their biggest fan in all their achievements.

Edward is survived by his wife; Audrey Warning Mogenhan, whom he married June 10, 1961 in Orchard Park, NY, a son; Michael (Ann) Mogenhan of Jamestown, a daughter; Mechelle (Gary) Stemler of Excelsior, MN, five grandsons; Patrick and Nathan Mogenhan, Taylor, Robert, and William Stemler, and several loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; John and Joseph Mogenhan, and one sister; Mary Elizabeth Mogenhan.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10AM, on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the St. Mary of Lourdes RC Church in Mayville (22 E. Chautauqua St). FH Todd Remick will officiate. Burial will be in the Chautauqua Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St), on Friday, April 5, 2019.
