MAYVILLE- Edwin "Goldie" Fay Brightman, 94, of Mayville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 19, 2024. He was born March 30, 1929, in Corry, PA, the son of the late Seth and Florence Colburn Brightman.

He attended Chautauqua Central School. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation in Mayville, NY, where he retired from.

Goldie was a member of the Lake Chautauqua VFW Post 8647, the William L. Travis Mayville American Legion Post 493, and the Westfield Moose Club. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and being with family and friends.

He is survived by his six children: Rebecca (Stephen) Fardink of Ashville, NY, Nanci (Fred) Raven of Ridgeland, SC, Kenneth Brightman of Jamestown, NY, Richard (Anna) Brightman of Midland, MI, Jeffrey (Vicki) Brightman of Riverside, CA and Timothy (Sally) Brightman of Ripley, NY and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Mertons Brightman, and two grandsons, Kenneth Brightman, Jr and Steven Fardink Jr.

The funeral will be held at noon on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S Erie St) with the family receiving friends for two hours prior to the funeral (10 AM to Noon), at the funeral home. The burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lake Chautauqua VFW Post 8647 in lieu of flowers.
