WESTFIELD- Ernest Joel Rammelt, 81, of Westfield, NY, passed away with family at his side on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY following a brief illness.

He was born January 12, 1942, in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Ernest William and Ida Todaro Rammelt.

Ernie was a 1959 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School. He was a fruit farmer and an owner of Rammelt Farms and one of the owners of Rammelt and Sons Farm Equipment. He was also the owner of Chautauqua Energy Inc., Fire Equipment Sales and Services, E & R Leasing and the Westfield Carwash.

Ernie had been a member of the Westfield Moose, the Westfield and Ripley Fish and Game Clubs, the Independent Producer of Oil and Gas Association (IOGA), a lifetime member of the NRA, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Westfield, Welch's-National Grape CO-OP, and a board member for Chautauqua Patrons.

He enjoyed his horse and cattle hobby farm, hunting, old cars and trucks, collecting antique Ford trucks, shooting trap, being a trap shooting instructor, bowling, going to tractor pulls and car shows, and spending time with his family.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Suzanne Casler Rammelt, whom he married August 26, 1961, a son, Joel E. Rammelt of Westfield, NY, and two daughters: Jill R. (Kenneth H. Jr.) Clute of Mayville, NY, and Jacqueline E. (Anthony) Franchina of Westfield, NY, eight grandchildren: Elisha (Sean) Eisnor, Garrett (Jenna) Rammelt, Travis (Brookelyn) Rammelt, Brittany (Eric) Fish, Ian (Summer Borysoff) Clute, Emily (Andrew) Gilkinson, and Eliz

abeth (Ryan Sullivan) Franchina, five great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Preston, Reagan, Evelyn, and Romeo, (and two more on the way), a sister, Nancy Johnston of Seneca Falls, NY, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab for their love and care of Ernie.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest William and Ida Todaro Rammelt.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Thursday, October 5, 2023

at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). A private funeral will be held by the family. Inurnment will be in the St Peter's Episcopal Church in Westfield, NY.

The family suggests memorial donations to go towards the Ernest Rammelt Family Scholarship at the Westfield Academy and Central School.
