MAYVILLE - Errol Charles Anderson, 72 of Whallon Street Mayville, died in Westfield Memorial Hospital on Friday January 9, 2015.
Errol was born April 17, 1942 in Jamestown, New York the son of late Woodrow and Clare Daley Anderson.
He was a US Army Veteran serving from 1964-66 with foreign service in Germany.
On September 7, 1968, Errol married Joyce Hellman and they celebrated 46 years of a loving marriage.
Errol owned and operated Mayville Hardware from 1966-2008 where he provided knowledge and service to his customers. He continued to work with his daughter Amy in the Hardware. He was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church; the National Hardware Association; Do It Best Corporation; the Cherry Creek Sno-Goers; past Mayville Central School Board member; and past treasurer of Mayville Library. Errol was an avid golfer, snowmobiler, and past racquetball player.
Errol is survived by his wife; his daughter Amy Anderson (Donald) Schultze of Mayville; his son Darren (Meredith) Anderson of Albany, NY; his beloved granddaughter Katherine Schultze; and his new granddaughter Meghan Anderson; his three sisters Irene Burrows of Irvine, CA, Connie Szostek of Rochester; Wendy Doody Boston, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Woodrow J. Anderson.
Errol and Katherine shared an unique camaraderie golfing, waterskiing, and travelling together.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 pm Friday January 16 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday January 17 at 11:00am at St. Mary of Lourdes in Mayville. Rev. Todd Remick will be celebrant. Interment will be in Mayville Cemetery.
