MAYVILLE- Gerald A. Thompson, 93, of Mayville, died Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Fairview Manor in Fairview, PA.
He was born January 7, 1924 in Mayville, NY, the son of the late Austin and Alma Crandall Thompson.
Jerry had been a Mechanical Inspector for the Hammermill Paper Company in Erie, PA.
He was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War Two in the European Theater.
Jerry was a life member of the American Legion, and the VFW. He belonged to the Mayville United Methodist Church, the Mayville Senior Citizens and the Town of Chautauqua Historical Society.
He enjoyed the outdoors and traveling, having traveled at one point around the entire world. He also loved Florida, where he spent his winters for 30 years with his loving wife of 71 years.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Howe Thompson, whom he married on September 21, 1945, a daughter; Judy (Peter) Lucero of Fairview, PA, four grandsons; Robert (Deb) Westcott of Olean, Damien (Kristina) Westcott of Rochester, MN, John Hemmis of Washington, DC, and Jason (Paige) Hemmis of Edinburg, PA, two great grandsons; Max Hemmis and Harry Westcott, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter; Christine Westcott, and a brother; Clifford Thompson.
The funeral will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, May 9, with military services included, at the Freay Funeral Home, 139 S. Erie St, Mayville. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service (11am). Pastor Mark Parsons will officiate. A private burial will follow in Mayville Cemetery.
