MAYVILLE – Gerald M. "Jerry" Young, 83, of Dinsbier Road, Mayville, died Sunday (May 10, 2015) in his home.

He was born May 8, 1932 in Allentown, PA, the son of the late Linford and Miriam Young.

Gerald was a veteran of the US Navy with the rank of Lieutenant. He had been a manager of Owens-Illinois in Toledo, OH. After he retired he worked for Wakley Escort Inc. driving a pilot car for wide/oversized loads. He enjoyed boating, snow skiing, traveling, ham radio, and attending programs at Chautauqua Institution. He loved his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Gockley Young, who he married June 13, 1954 in Allentown, PA; one daughter, Kristin (John) Savage of Darlington, PA; three sons, David (Dorothy) Young of St. Charles, IL, Steven Young of Bend, OR., and Scott (Stephani) Young of Cincinnati, OH; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Linford E. Young of Whitehall, PA; and a sister, Fern Shafer of Bayville, NJ.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm. Sunday (May 24th.) at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Rev. Mark Parsons of the Mayville United Methodist Church will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 pm. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Military Honors will be conducted by the Lake Chautauqua VFW in Mayville.
