SHERMAN- Gertrude "Gert" Rita McDonald Barringer, 87, of Sherman, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Absolut Care of Westfield.

She was born August 2, 1933 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Maleski McDonald.

Gert had worked as a waitress in several local restaurants having spent most of her time with the Sherman Hotel. She also helped her late husband with running a family farm and had provided transportation to people in need for medical appointments.

She enjoyed crocheting, plastic canvas craft, cheering for the Buffalo Bills, cooking for her family and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Gert is survived by a son Gary (Susan) Barringer of Sherman, six grandchildren; Robert (Rachel) Barringer of Boston, MA, Jan (Alex) Barringer-Tenchipe of Albuquerque, NM, Michael Barringer of Jamestown, Brian (Vee) Barringer of Hartfield, Todd (Laurie) Barringer of Clymer, and Lori (Chris) Wilson of Jamestown, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, five siblings; Patti (Ed) Maluski, Louise Montgomery, John (Mary) McDonald, Florence (Jeff) Barrett, and Cecilia Docnovich, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Ivan Merle Barringer Sr., whom she married June 28, 1949, four children; Paul Barringer, Ivan Merle Barringer Jr., Audrey Barringer, and Susan Barringer, and four siblings; Frances Buska, Betty Hugg, Mary Oliveri, and Ed McDonald.

At Gert's request there will be no public visitation observed. A private graveside service will take place in the Mina Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
