CHAUTAUQUA-  Guy E. Burdick Sr., 90, of Chautauqua, NY, died December 22, 2017 at his home, with family by his side.

He was born April 27, 1927 in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Wilbur and Irene Inwood Burdick.

Guy had been a self-employed Painter for forty years, having painted many of the homes on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II.

Guy was a life member of the American Legion William L. Travis Post 493, a life member of the Mayville VFW Post 8647, a member of the Chautauqua Fire Department for over 60 years, a Brigadier General of the Patriarch Militants of Florida and New York, a member of the Independent Order of ODD Fellows serving as past Patriarch of Encampment in the ODD Fellows, a recipient of the Decoration of Chivalry from the ODD Fellows, a Patron of Young Girls between the ages of 14 and 18 sending them to camp at Allegany State Park, and was on the Board of Trustees for the Boy Scouts where he was instrumental in the construction of the Log Cabin on the lake at Camp Merz.

He enjoyed hunting, flying his personal planes which he would haul to and from Florida each year, and time with his family.

Guy is survived by his wife, Lucille I. Guerr Burdick, whom he married November 20, 1948 in Buffalo, NY, his three children; Guy (Adriane) Burdick Jr of Mayville, Catherine (Gaylen) Behrent of Denver, CO, and Mary Reynolds, of Mayville, seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and one sister; June Woollett of Fredonia, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Grace Burdick and one brother; Wilbur Burdick Jr.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on July 2, 2018 at 10AM at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Dan Prewitt will officiate.
