ASHVILLE – Hancil M. Kelsey Briggs, 93, of Wellman Road, Ashville, died Sunday (Aug. 2, 2015) in WCA Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1922 in Estill Springs, TN, the daughter of the late Griggs and Nellie Green Armstrong.
Hancil enjoyed bird watching, cooking for her family, listening to country music, sewing, and reading.
She is survived by five children, Kaie (Michael) Smith of Lakewood, Michele (Jim Coan) DePonceau of Ashville, Cristy (Martin) Sixt of Springville, Thomas Kelsey of Jamestown, and Emma Jean (Del) Robbins of Dighton, Mass; 14 beloved grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Briggs and John Kelsey; four children, James Thomas Briggs, Danny Briggs, Yvonne Crowell, and John Michael Kelsey; one grandson, David Kennedy; two brothers, Harald Armstrong, and Harry Armstrong.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. No visitation will be observed. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
The Freay Funeral Home in Mayville is in charge of arrangements.
