MAYVILLE- Harley J Barber Jr., 92 of Mayville, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the Absolut Care in Westfield.

He was born December 20, 1925 in Mayville, the son of the late Harley J and V. Fern Stafford Barber.

Harley had worked for the Town of Chautauqua Highway Department and was a co-owner of Barber Garage in Mayville with his parents.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in the European theater and was a Bronze Star recipient.

Harley belonged to the Mayville-Chautauqua Lyons club, the Masonic Peacock Lodge No. 696, the Mayville American Legion William L. Travis Post #493, and the Mayville VFW Post #8647.

He was an avid golfer, having made three hole-in-one shots in his lifetime. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.

Harley is survived by two sons; Harley J (Becky) Barber III of Mayville, and Tim (fiancé Kathy) Barber of Marcy, NY, four granddaughters; Tara (Len) Culbreth of Westfield, Shauna (Mike) Ellis of Mayville, Julie Barber of Rome, NY, and Andrea (Jeremey) Alden of Tallahassee, FL, and eight great-grandchildren; Brenna and Nathan Culbreth, Zachary, Ryker, and Mikaela Ellis, Danika, and Maci Liesch, and Rowyn Alden.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor (Ellie) Hovey Barber, whom he married on September 3, 1947, his parents, a sister; Virginia Sargent, and a great-granddaughter; Evelyn Alden

The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). The funeral service will be private.
