MAYVILLE – Harold "Zig" R. Kilgore, 86, of 4940 Walker Road, Bemus Point, died Monday (February 22, 2016) at home.
He was born July 9, 1929 in Lancaster, PA, the son of the late John E. Kilgore and Rita M. McCabe.
Zig was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a co-owner of the Davison and Kilgore Furniture and Appliance Store in Mayville, he had also been an agent for Prudential Insurance Company.
He was a member of Peacock Masonic Lodge in Mayville, he had been the Patron for Acanthus Chapter of Eastern Stars, a member of American Legion in Mayville, and Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post VFW in Mayville.
He served as Village Police Justice in the 60's
Zig enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Deborah A. Johnson of Oceanside, CA, and Janet D. (Dean) Snyder of Bemus Point; two grandchildren, Jody Holcomb and Kevin Kilgore; five great grandchildren, Kaleb Baerresen, McKenzie Holcomb, Brent Kilgore, Oliva Kilgore and Ethan Kilgore; one brother, John "Jack" Kilgore of Wallace, NE.
He was preceded in death by his wife to whom he was married to for 63 years, Janet "Jennie" Robertson Kilgore who he married September 10, 1949 and who died July 3, 2012; and a great granddaughter, Kylie Holcomb.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. No calling hours will be observed. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
The Freay Funeral Home in Mayville is in charge of arrangements.
