MAYVILLE- Henry Russell Gervaise, 92, of Mayville passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at St Vincent's Hospital in Erie, PA.

He was born May 3, 1930, in Westfield, NY the son of the late Charles and Pearl Warner Gervaise.

Henry was a 1947 graduate of Mayville Central School. He married Norma Barber on October 27, 1951, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville. Henry proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sargent in the 187 ^th Airborne RCT. Henry was deployed to Japan and Korea during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a carpenter for Barnes Construction in Falconer, NY.

After retirement, Henry enjoyed woodworking, creating lovely furniture pieces for his home and family. He became very interested in Shaker boxes and began creating replicas of them decades ago. He was famous at the weekly Chautauqua Art Market for his boxes and sold hundreds of them over the years.  He also made many dear friends as both customers and artists over the years.

Henry was an avid cook and baker. He truly enjoyed showing his love for his family by sharing his foods and baked goods every chance he got. He was the baker of all the family birthday cakes for many years.

He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville, NY. In addition to woodworking and baking, Henry enjoyed following sports, especially the local high school teams. He was proud of all of his grandchildren, especially his great granddaughter, Kayla, for participating in Jr. ROTC in high school, following in his footsteps.

Henry is survived by three children; Amanda (Michael) Janisch of Dunkirk, Lisa (Alan)

Holbrook of Westfield, and Philip H. (Janet) Gervaise of Sherman, four grandchildren; Gregory Seyler, Kellie (Michael) Seyler, Alexandra (Victor III) Matos, and Marie (Sean) Mahoney, and nine great-grandchildren; Kierra, Kayla, and Gregory Seyler, Kaleb and Brennan Seyler, Juliana Mahoney, and Aviana and Isabelle Matos.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son; Rory Gervaise and his wife, Norma Gervaise.

A private funeral will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville at the convenience of the family.
