ASHVILLE – J. Bryan (Buster) King, 81, of 1865 Three Branches Road, Lugoff, SC, formerly of Westfield, died Monday (September 15, 2014) at the home of his daughter in Stow, NY.
He was born February 1, 1933 in Summerdale, NY, the son of the late Jennings Bryan and Leah Marie Gilbert King.
Buster was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean Crisis. He retired from Renold Inc. in Westfield, and had also been a self-employed electrician and grape farmer.
He was a former member of the Westfield American Legion and Westfield Moose Club; he was a member of the NRA.
Buster was a self-taught artist having won several awards at art and crafts shows, and state fairs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, NASCAR, dirt track and stock car racing. He loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife MaryEtta Bowser King, whom he married February 10, 1956 in Kittanning, PA; four children, Vickie (Frank) Stow of Stow, NY, Lenae (Mike) Eck of Lugoff, SC, Erica (Gary) Williams of Chiefland, FL, and Leah (Nate) Betts of Westfield, NY; 12 grandchildren, Luana, Patty, Bryan, Kim, Sarah, Niki, Mallory, John, Nate, Leah, Michael, and Travis; 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Bryan D. King in 2013; one sister, Shirley Arcadipane and five brothers, Kenneth, Ernest, Frank, Ilo, and Claude King.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday (Sept. 22) at the West Portland Baptist Church. Pastor Charles Robertson and Pastor Gary Henry will officiate.
No calling hours will be observed.
