MAYVILLE - Jack Hugh Walters, 93, of Snug Harbor Road, Mayville, NY, died Saturday, April 29, 2017 surrounded by family.
He was born May 16, 1923 in Portville, NY; the son of the late Fred and Myrna Reichenberger Walters.
Jack had been an appliance repairman, employed by Matson's Furniture store in Olean, at Powell & Lackey's in Obi, and later was self-employed.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II, a member of the American Legion, and also the original Olean Bowman Archery Club. Jack was a licensed ham radio operator, and he enjoyed bowling hunting, fishing and time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Besok Walters, whom he married on March 29, 1947 in Olean; four daughters - Bonnie Seth of
Olean, Jacqueline (Robert) Wiley of Olean, Linda (James) Corell of Portland, and Sandra (Dave Henneburger) Robinson of Portville; two sons - David (Anne) Walters of Mayville, and Bruce Walters of Hinsdale; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, a sister, Pauline Dettrey, and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred Carr, and four brothers - Bill, George, Jim, and Dick Walters.
There will be no visitation observed. Burial will be private in the Chautauqua Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
