MAYVILLE- James "Jim" Fredrick Fischer, 78, of Mayville, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, following an extended illness.

He was born January 11, 1942 in Buffalo, NY the son of the late Fred and Marie Wojcinski Fischer.

Jim was a 1959 graduate of Mayville Central School. After high school he attended the University of Buffalo and then joined the United States Navy, serving from 1961 to 1966 and then attended Fredonia State College where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Science.

He had worked for Chautauqua County as a Child Protection Worker and Probation Officer which he retired from in 2004. He was also a Chautauqua Town Judge for many years.

Jim was a member of St Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville where he was a past Warden and Vestry member, and a member of the Mayville American Legion William L. Travis Post 493.

He enjoyed professional skiing, sailing, gardening, hiking, traveling, reading, his Newfoundland dogs, and time with family. Prior to his death Jim enjoyed a full life traveling and enjoyed time with his wife.

He was extremely proud of his son Ben, a captain in the United States Coast Guard, and seeing him get command of his own cutter. His daughter, Lindsay, and Jim had a special bond and were always the two calming forces in the Ben and mom chaos.

Jim is survived by his loving wife; Fairlee Hall Fischer, whom he married May 29, 1988 in Mayville, six children; Benjamin (Lisa) Golightly of Alaska, and their children Shannon and Megan; Lindsay (Derek) Grout of Ithaca, NY, and their children Everett, Charlotte, and Andy; Eric (Kim) Fischer of Hamburg, NY, and their children Liam and Abby; Heidi (Kevin Chugh) Fischer of East Aurora, NY and their children Jon and Kathy; Jeff (Melanie) Fischer of Buffalo, NY, and Halle (Brian) Edydt of Vancouver, BC and their children Charlie, Ollie, Cooper, Makenna, and Naomi, one sister; Karen (Gary) Lang of Maryland, two brother in laws; Brie (Donna Keenan) Hall of Massachusetts, and Mark (Nancy) Hall of Ithaca, NY, several nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and his loving dog; Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

His requested parting quote; "I lived, I died." He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor.

At Jim's request there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family at St Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville.
