MONTGOMERY- James Douglas Montgomery, 60, of Westfield, NY, and formerly of Douglas Manor, NY, Queens County, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, PA, following a lengthy illness. He was born June 6, 1964, in Goshen, NY, the son of Janet (Quakenbush) Nass, and the late Terryl Brooke Montgomery. He was step-son to the late Harold Nass.

Douglas earned a BS in Real Estate Management at SUNY Brockport.

His work earned him title as Broker and owner of several businesses, the latest one being "Home NY Real Estate," in Douglaston, NY.  His concentrations in Real Estate included NYC Tax Lien Specialist, Foreclosures, including the HUD Officer Next Door Program, Advisor and Negotiator, and NYC Landmark Specialist. Douglas was a 22-year member of LIBOR (Long Island Board of Realtors) and chaired the following committees: Professional Standards Committee, Mediation, Arbitration and received the Long Island Board of Realtors Community Service Award 2012.

Douglas served 17 years as a Community Board 11 Member, Past Chair of Libraries and Landmarks Committee, and Chair of Douglaston Zoning.

Douglas was a longtime supporter of Little Neck and Douglaston community events. One could see him shoveling people's houses, cutting lawns and dropping off Christmas cookies to his friends. Being a Lay Eucharistic minister for Zion Episcopal Church in Douglaston meant that he was closely connected to those who could not get out, and to share a prayer.

Most of his hobbies were fishing, gardening, grilling for his tailgates for the Jets games, a daily grill master and excellent cook and baker. Douglas was a collector of Indentures, the Navajo Nation community, genealogy, and a past sailing team member who also cooked on the sailboats.

His favorite pastime was working with the Douglaston Garden Club. Not only was he a member, but he was the first male President for five years as well as Vice President for two years. Douglas was honored to be in the NYS Book of Recognition for Outstanding Service, being the first male ever given this award.

Douglas was also a committed member and Co-Chair of the Little Neck- Douglaston Memorial Day Parade for five years. He received the Chairman's Award in 2008 volunteering at all of the fundraisers and of course making zeppoles for the St. Anastasia's (Devine Wisdom) Carnival. He was Lions Club Man of the Year 2012, Men of the Year for the parade, and King of Queens for Community Service.

Aside from his two sons, Douglas was the greatest Grateful Dead fan and a collector of Grateful Dead artwork. He went to many Dead concerts while Gerry was alive, and then the Dead & Co. concerts. He handed out his collectables to all on the Shakedown Street tailgating venues. He loved Gerry more than anyone besides his boys.

As a member of Scottish American Society of NYC, he and his wife would dance the Hands Round with the beautiful bagpipes in the background.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Confredo) Montgomery, whom he married May 9,1998, two sons, Terryl Alexander Montgomery of Panguitch, UT, and Pierce MacLeod Montgomery of Bayside, NY, his mother, Janet (Quakenbush) Nass, of Westfield, NY, four siblings, Winifred Lynn Montgomery, Mark Andrew Montgomery, Kenneth Robert (Tad) Montgomery, and Margaret Alison (Meg) Montgomery, two step-siblings, Colin Nass, and Natalie Nass, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Harold Nass.

At Douglas's request, there will be no public services observed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
