BEMUS POINT- Janet Marie Balcom, 87, of Bemus Point, NY passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 3rd, 2021.

She was born March 8, 1934 in Gerry, NY the daughter of the late Oliver and Frances Kelley Strickland.

Jan was a graduate of Westfield High School. She worked at Maple Grove High School as a Librarian and later the Secretary in the main office where she could always tell when a fellow staff member or student needed a piece of her chocolate to brighten their day.

Janet was a member of St Timothy Lutheran Church in Bemus Point, the Braille Club of Bemus Point, and volunteered for many years at the Volusia County Public Library in Orange City, FL, where she spent many winters with her husband.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to work and play outside in all seasons and passed down many beloved games and traditions that her family will continue for generations to come.

Janet is survived by her husband of 65 years; George H. Balcom Sr., whom she married December 17, 1955, one daughter; Diann (John) Jaeger of Bemus Point, one daughter-in-law; Carol Balcom of Bemus Point, three grandchildren; Jennifer Jaeger, Janelle Jaeger and Katrina Balcom of Bemus Point, three great grandchildren; Aurora, Grace and Caleb Barton of Bemus Point, one brother; Skip (Brenda) Strickland of Rochester, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son; George H. Balcom Jr., one grandson; Ryan Clarence Balcom, two sisters; Betty (Angelo) Lachuisa, and Barb (Skip) Haar, and one brother; Oliver (Lillian) Strickland.

At Janet's request there will be no public services. A private graveside service will be held in the Gerry Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
