MAYVILLE – Janet M. Taylor, 92, of Mayville, died Friday (October 10, 2014) in St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, PA.
She was born on December 20, 1921 in London, England, the daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Harvey Winn.
Janet was a veteran of the Woman's Land Army of England. Janet met her future husband at Ivybridge in Devonshire, England while both were serving during WWII, she in the Woman's Land Army while her future husband US Army SGT Guy A. Taylor was also serving there.
She was a member of the Chautauqua Poetry Circle, and the Knitting Club.
Janet enjoyed reading and writing poetry, she also enjoyed writing poetry for the Jamestown Post Journal around Christmas time. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening.
She is survived by a son Devon (Nancy) Taylor of Mayville; a daughter, Deirdre (Ron) Bennett of St. Paris, OH; two granddaughters, Hannah Bennett, and Aurelia Taylor; one sister, Pauline Upson of England.
She was preceded in death by her husband Guy A. Taylor whom she married August 22, 1947 in the Mayville United Methodist Church and who died November 5, 2012; and one brother Stuart Winn.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Rev. Mark Parsons, pastor at the Mayville United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.
