Jean E. Peters, formerly of Mayville, died Friday (March 15, 2019) at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing in Greenhurst, NY.

She was born July 8, 1937 in Bradford, PA to Alfred and Margaret Hammond.  When a young child her parents moved to a dairy farm in Little Valley, NY.  Jean graduated from Little Valley Central School in 1955 and married William Peters of Hartfield, NY in December of that year.

The couple settled in Mayville, where William worked for the Sheriff's Department and Jean was employed by Chautauqua County Social Services.  She also worked in the school cafeteria and as a secretary in an insurance office before returning to work for the county in the CASA (Community Alternative Systems Agency) office.

Jean was a long-time member of the Bemus Point United Methodist church.  Her hobbies included gardening and buying and reselling treasures she found at lawn and estate sales.

She is survived by her sons, Jeff (Terry) Peters of Pittsburgh, PA and Don (Karen) Peters of Palmer, AK; her grandchildren, Emmali, Nora, Will, Ben and Asa; and her brothers, Floyd Hammond and James Hammond.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and her brother, Donald Hammond.

The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville.  The Reverend Kristen Allen will officiate.  Burial will be in the Villenova Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7PM on Monday, March 18 at the funeral home.
