MAYVILLE- Joanne E. Latta Briggs, 94, of Mayville, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at UPMC Hamot Hospital. She was born on November 13, 1932, in Mayville, NY, the daughter of the late Clifford and Margaret Kieffer Latta.

Joanne attended Chautauqua Central School. For many years she worked as a self-employed house cleaner in the Chautauqua Institution. She was a life member of the Lake Chautauqua VFW and enjoyed going yard-saling and spending time with her family.

Joanne is survived by her four children, Georgianna Utley of Mayville, NY, Lawrence (Margie) Briggs of Falconer, NY, Norman (Janet) Briggs of Kentucky, and Donald A. Briggs Sr of Mayville, NY, eleven grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, twenty-one great-great-grandchildren, two great-great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George “Shorty” W. Briggs, a son, William E. Briggs, a grandson, Donald A. Briggs Jr., and five siblings, Barbara Carter, Betty Brown, Clifford Latta, Kenny Latta, and Marvin Latta Sr.

A funeral service was held at 3PM on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Joanne’s final resting place is the Magnolia Cemetery.
