DEWITTVILLE- John "Jack" Gilbert Hatheway, 86, of Dewittville, NY and formerly of Shaler, PA, passed away with family at his side on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital in Jamestown, NY, following a lengthy illness.

Jack was born September 10, 1936, in Erie, PA, the son of the late John F. and Lucille E. Wagner Hatheway.

Jack was a 1954 graduate of Cathedral Prep High School. He attended Gannon and St. Bonaventure Universities. After an extensive career in business sales, Jack retired as Sales Manager for Resolite Manufacturing in Zelienople, PA in 1998. Upon retirement, he settled in his family cottage by Chautauqua Lake.

He was formerly an active member of St. Bonaventure parish in Glenshaw, PA and currently a member of St Mary of Lourdes RC Church in Bemus Point, NY. In addition, Jack was a zoning board member of Shaler Township and Chautauqua County. He was also a former Boy Scout Leader.

Jack and his wife loved to travel and spent many winters on St Simons Island in Georgia. He was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing, turkey hunting, fishing, and going to their hunting camp in Potter County. He loved children and was a volunteer at Chautauqua Lake Elementary School with the third grade. Most importantly, Jack truly enjoyed time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John F. Hatheway and Lucille (Wagner) Hatheway and two brothers; Donald J. Hatheway and Stephen Hatheway.

Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanne Colvin Hatheway, his brother, Richard, of Wylie, TX, his sister, Ann, of Erie, PA, his four children: John (Kim) Hatheway, Mary (Lynne) Hatheway, James (Chris) Hatheway, and Karen (Carl) Bowman,  four grandchildren: Brian (Sharon) Hatheway, Ian Hatheway, Lauren Hatheway, and Jessica (Brett) Burkhart, two great grandchildren: Aubrey Hatheway and expected in June 2023, Caleb James Burkhart, numerous nieces and nephews and a long time building, fishing and hunting companion from Erie, PA, Ken Herman.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at St Mary of Lourdes, RC Church (42 Main St, Bemus Point, NY 14712). Fr Todd Remick and Fr Phil Pribonic will be concelebrating. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
