DEWITTVILLE – John C. Slater, Jr., 81, of Dewittville, NY, passed peacefully on Sunday (October 5, 2014) in the Veteran's Hospital in Buffalo, NY, with his loving family by his side.
He was born February 28, 1933 in Randolph, NY, the son of the late John C. and Mary Hillebert Slater, Sr.
John was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was also a quilter, and was a farmer having operated farms in Conn., Western New York, and Northern New York.
John enjoyed his family and his animals, and he loved all of his customers.
He is survived by his four children, Kevin (Bonnie) Slater of Rochester Mills, PA, Leigh Slater of Randolph, NY, Joanne Slater of Rochester, NY, and Judy (Glenn) Klingensmith of New Port Richey, FL; eleven grandchildren, Karen Mikita, Kelly Tremmell, Kandi Kaiser, Brandon Slater, Erica Zamborsky, Hope Harrold, Haleigh Redington, Nadine Britton, Jan Wilson, Valerie Booth, and Garrett Klingensmith; 19 great grandchildren and one on the way; also he is survived by his aunt, Emily Fisher; a sister, Mary Sperber; a brother, Allen Slater; and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Martha J. Milks Slater whom he married August 22, 1953 in Napoli, NY and who died August 24, 2002; two brothers, Warren Slater, and Clarence Slater; two sisters, Marilyn Teachman, and Retha Smith Saff.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday (Oct. 10, 2014) in the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Mark Parsons of the church will officiate. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery.
