CHAUTAUQUA – June Elaine Briggs, 75, of Potter Road, died at 9:30 pm Monday (January 28, 2013) in her home.

She was born June 17, 1937 in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Alfred and Violet Mabee Newton.

June was a dedicated wife, mother to her 3 boys, and homemaker, she did housekeeping mainly at Chautauqua Institution for several years.

She was a member of Hurlbut Memorial Community United Methodist Church in Chautauqua and the prayer groups at church; she was a life member of the Chautauqua Fire Department where she was a member of the fire police, and the Chautauqua County Fire Police Association.

June enjoyed reading, her church, the fire department, her "granddaughter" Gwen the Great Dane, and was a great fan of watching her son Chris race cars at Lake Erie Speedway.

She is survived by her husband Royal Briggs Sr. whom she married February 25, 1955 in Chautauqua; three sons, Royal "Butch" (Janet) Briggs Jr. of Chautauqua, Alden Briggs of Lanham, MD, and Chris (Paula) Briggs of Chautauqua; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Heather (Duane), Ashlie, Alisha (Levi), Nathaniel, Kristen, and John; six great grandchildren, Andrew, Alyse, Seven, Juliana, Ella, and Evangeline; one sister, Bonnie (Gary) Bisbee of Cassadaga.

The funeral service will be at 3:00 pm Saturday in Hurlbut Memorial Community Church in Chautauqua. Rev. Paul Womack will officiate. Burial will be in the Chautauqua Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Friday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.
