MAYVILLE-Kenneth "Ken" Elbert Niles, 90, 0f Mayville, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 6, 2019 at his home.

He was born January 13, 1929 in the town of Stockton, the son of the late Leon and Marie Cross Niles.

Ken was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict.

He was a heavy equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation in Mayville. In earlier years he was a Finishing Room Foreman at Klings in Mayville and had been a part time policeman for the Village of Mayville.

Ken was a member of the Mayville United Methodist Church, the Mayville American Legion William L. Travis Post 493, the Mayville VFW Post 8647, the Jamestown War Vets Club in Fluvanna, and the Masonic Peacock Lodge #696 F&AM.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, Friday night family fish fry's around the county, and time with his family.

Ken is survived by his three daughters; Janet (John) Woodfield of Bemus Point, Judy Niles of Mayville, and Joan (Larry) Scalise of Bemus Point, five grandchildren; Jennifer (Erik) Tarr, Kyle (Danielle) Woodfield, Kenneth (Kellie) Woodfield, Samantha and Alexandra Scalise, six great grandchildren; Logan, Kendra, Karrie, Kaylee Tarr, Olivia and Luke Woodfield, one sister; Bea (Clifford) Lee of Brocton, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; June E. Thayer Niles, whom he married July 1, 1949 in Stockton, his parents, his sister Arloine Russell, and twin sister Marjorie Carlson.

The funeral will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Mayville United Methodist Church (81 South Erie St). The Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-7PM on Tuesday, May 14 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St).
