ASHVILLE – Leo Lescynski, 96, of Victoria Road, Ashville, died Saturday (March 5, 2016) at his home.
He was born October 29, 1919 in Sherman, Conn., the son of the late Alexander and Genofa Wolinski Lescynski.
Leo was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army, for three years he was in the South Pacific. He had worked at Cresent Tool as a machinist, a Dairy Farmer, New York State Highway, and Overseer for Lake Properties in Ashville, Mayville, and Chautauqua for 50 years.
He was a Charter and Life member of Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post VFW in Mayville, the Mayville American Legion, he was an exempt fireman at the Ashville Fire Department, and he also belonged to North Harmony Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Kranking Lescynski whom he married July 6, 1942 in Mayville; five children, William (Donna) Lescynski of Mayville, Anita (Earl) Ferry of Ashville, Tom (Julie) Lescynski of Mayville, Jack (Maryann) Lescynski of Mayville, and Lisa (Randy) Nickerson of Mayville; 14 grandchildren, Kim Lescynski, Pam Applebee. Stacey Davenport, Bill Lescynski Jr., Leanna (John) Conley, Amanda (Andy) Anderson, Christine (Jody) Olson, Andrew (Wende) Lescynski, Jesse Lescynski, Mollie (Mike) Messenger, Melanie (Mike) Cannon, Emily (Jason) Small, Shane (Samantha) Nickerson, and Derrick (Rachelle) Nickerson; 22 great grandchildren; one brother, tom Lescynski of Sherman, Conn., two sisters, Dorothy Popper of Miami, FL, and Katherine Lescynski of Bare Foot Bay, FL.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and six sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will receive friend from 2 to 5 pm Wednesday in the funeral home.
