MAYVILLE - Leroy F. "Frank" Blanchard, 93, of Honeysette Road, Mayville, died Saturday (April 27, 2013) in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing, in Greenhurst, NY.

He was born August 31, 1919 in Mayville, the son of the late LeRoy H. and Neta McGahen Blanchard.

Frank was a veteran of the US Army during World War II and had received two Purple Hearts, he was also given recognition for saving the life of a young girl in Mayville.

Frank had been a self-employed metallurgist.

He was a life member of the William L. Travis American Legion Post 493 in Mayville of which he was a past Commander form 1979-1982, a life member of the William Jackway VFW Post 6764 in Westfield, he was also a life member of the NRA.

Frank enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Pat Perrine of Cattaraugus and Joyce Shavalier of Wilburton, OK; thirteen grandchildren, April, Kelly, Scott, Amy, Robert, Christine, Dale, Jeremy, Patrick, Rachael, Brian, Jolene, and Jesse; 28 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elvera Johnson Blanchard; mother, Neta Blanchard Lincoln; step father, Claude Lincoln; three daughters, Mary, Linda, and Jean Blanchard; five sisters, Susan Emily Blanchard, Eva Mae Blanchard, Ferne Lincoln, Ruth Vanderhoff, and Irene Ecker; three brothers, Edward Blanchard, Norman Blanchard, and George Blanchard; and one grandson, Richard Flagg.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Mayville American Legion or the VFW in Westfield.
