MAYVILLE- Lois M. Freeman Stroebel, 86, of Mayville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Jamestown, NY.

She was born July 3, 1936, in Sherman, NY the daughter of the late Thomas and Corinne Barnhart Freeman.

Lois graduated from Mayville Central School in 1955. She then attended and graduated from the Jamestown School of Practical Nursing.

On October 13, 1956, she married the love of her life, George Stroebel. They made their home in Mayville where she was a homemaker most of her life. Lois was known for her compassionate heart and kind spirit, sense of humor, her famous macaroni and potato salads, spoiling her grandchildren, and playing games with her grandchildren like Yahtzee and Rummy. She also enjoyed her dachshunds, taking rides in the country while listening to Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty, and Elvis, shopping and luncheons with her dear friend Dorothy, but she was happiest when she was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved and made the most of family holiday get togethers.

Left to cherish her memories is a son; George Stroebel of Mayville, NY, two daughters; LuAnn (Steve) Wright of Westfield, NY and Shelly (Scott Raynor) Frye of Mayville, NY, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one brother; Thomas (Deanna) Freeman of Westfield, NY.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; George A. Stroebel who passed away on December 28, 2012, two sisters; Rose Marie Freeman and Beverly Slawson, and one brother; Pete Mead.

At Lois's request there will be no public services observed. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
