HARTFIELD-Martin "Marty" Douglas Smith, 67, of Hartfield, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at his home.

He was born May 2, 1951 in Westfield, NY the son of the late Crescent and Charlotte Sparling Smith.

Marty was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War.

After his military service he worked as a truck driver for over thirty years, primarily with Quality Markets in Celeron, NY

Marty was a life member of the Mayville VFW Post 8647, a member of the William L Travis Post 493 Mayville American Legion, and a previous board member of the Hartfield Fire Department.

He had a passion for watching NASCAR racing. For many years he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, boating, and wintering in Florida.

Marty is survived by his son; David (Nancy) Mount of Hartfield, three siblings; Phyllis Bornand of Dewittville, Norm (Bonnie) Smith of Dewittville, and Steven (Cindy) Smith of Seville, OH, three grandchildren; Joseph Britton, Leigh Britton, and Caitlin Baker, five great grandchildren; Kathryn, Kerri, Kallie, Paxton, and Tristin, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law; Jim Bornand.

The funeral will be held at 2PM on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville where military honors will also be given.  Paul Holthouse will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service (12-2PM) at the funeral home.
