LAKEWOOD- Martin G. "Marty" Thorp, 70, of Lakewood, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, October 7, 2022.

He was born November 4, 1951, in Jamestown, NY the son of the late Gilmore and Mary Port Thorp. He was a 1969 Graduate of Southwestern High School and then earned his Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) degree from Jamestown Community College. Marty then proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Medical Assistant from 1971 to 1975.

Marty was a member of the Baseball Card Association and the Lakewood Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, sports, collecting baseball cards, exercising, church, watching the Buffalo Bills, music, reading the Bible, flea markets, garage sales, watching high school sports, watching shows at the Amphitheater at the Chautauqua Institution and was a huge proponent of Chautauqua County.

He is survived by his brother; David (Gwen) Thorp of Mayville, NY, two nieces; Dawn (Mark) Schultz of Dewittville, NY, and Rosanna (Bryce) Hatfield of Ashville, NY, five great nieces and nephews; Tyler Hatfield, Josephine Hatfield, Anthony Lackner, Tristan Hummel, and Victoria Baran, and two great great nieces and nephews; Lucas and Anastasia.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Gilmore and Mary Port Thorp.

Friends will be received for visitation from 2 to 5 PM on Friday, October 14, 2022, at the Lakewood Baptist Church (150 Erie St, Lakewood, NY 14750) with the funeral beginning at 5 PM, also at the church on Friday. A reception dinner will follow at the church. The Rev. Nate Hlad will officiate. Burial will be in the Chautauqua Cemetery.
