MAYVILLE- Norma Ruth (Stebbins) Hewes, 89, of Mayville, passed away on Wednesday, June 8 ^th , 2022, at her home, with family at her side.

She was born November 12 ^th , 1932, in Corry, PA, the daughter of the late Clyde L. and Hattie Prindle Stebbins.

Norma was a 1950 graduate of Sherman Central School. She worked for forty years as a Bank Teller at First National Bank (AKA; Chase and M&T Bank) in Mayville, and in earlier years had worked for Welch's in Westfield and at WT Grant in Dunkirk, NY.

She was a member of the Chautauqua Fire Department Auxiliary, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and had attended Hulbut Memorial Community United Methodist Church in Chautauqua and Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church in Clymer, NY.

Norma enjoyed gardening, shopping, crafting, traveling extensively all over the world, was an avid collector of glassware, and was a great salesperson for the bank. She especially loved meeting new people and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three children; Diane (Geoffery) Dietrich of Salamanca, NY, Linda (Robert) Eames of Lindenhurst, IL, and Donald Hewes of Westfield, NY (Shirley, Ashville, NY), one AFS daughter from Belgium; Gerd (Walter) Van Schelvergem-Coppens, six grandchildren; David (Tomica) Dietrich of Buchanan, NY, Steven (Colleen) Dietrich of Salamanca, NY, Craig (Kelly) Hewes of Mayville, NY, Curtis Hewes of Ashville, NY, Christopher Hewes of Ashville, NY, and Courtney (Savannah Rivera) Hewes of Stow, NY, seven great grandchildren; Gavin, Rhys, Connor, and Ryan Dietrich, Devin, and Lexis Hewes, and Addison Shaw, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Milton E. Hewes, whom she married November 4, 1950, in Edwards Chapel, Clymer, NY, and one brother; Guy Stebbins.

The funeral will be held at 2PM on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). The Rev. Paul Womack will officiate. Burial will be in the Chautauqua Cemetery. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the funeral (12noon to 2PM) at the funeral home.
