Richard A. Anderson Sr.'s Obituary
MAYVILLE – Richard "Dick" A. Anderson Sr., 91, of East Lake Road, Mayville, died Sunday (Dec. 18, 2016) at Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown.
He was born November 5, 1925 in Brocton, the son of the late John A. and Mabel Peterson Anderson.
Dick was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army Air Force.
He had been a foreman for Kling's Furniture Factory in Mayville and for Ethan Allen Furniture. He had also been a television repairman.
Dick was a member of the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church, a life member of the Wm. L. Travis American Legion in Mayville where he previously served with the Honor Guard Memorial Team, he was on the Board of Education at the former Mayville Central School, he had been a Little League Baseball coach, and he had been a volunteer at the Mayville Library.
Dick enjoyed reading, gardening, playing cards, woodworking, doing word search puzzles and he was a WWII history buff, but above all loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean VanderMeulen Anderson, whom he married August 24, 1946 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mayville, six children, Richard (Cindy) Anderson Jr. of Mayville, Robert (Donna) Anderson of Amherst, Donald Anderson of Westfield, Deborah (Elmer) Kaprolat Jr. of Radford, VA, Kathleen (Bruce) Sweeney of Ashville, and Beth (Scot) Cummings of Mayville; eight grandchildren, Christopher Anderson of Lakewood, Amy Pomeroy of Mayville, Sarah Anderson of Amherst, Katelin Kaprolat of Radford, VA, Kelsey Kaprolat of Richmond, VA, Ashley Mayle of Mayville, Lauren Cummings of Jamestown, and Allison Cummings of Mayville; six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Jr. and Fred Anderson; two sisters, Shirley Trippy and Joyce Chapman.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday at the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Mark Parsons will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville.
Memorials may be made to the Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church or to the Hartfield Fire Department Rescue Squad.
