MAYVILLE- Robert "Bob" Norman Mathews, 79, of Mayville, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born January 25, 1943, in Mayville, NY, the son of the late Orrin H. and Lucille Benson Mathews.

Bob was a 1961 graduate of Mayville Central School. He had worked as a Supervisor for the New York State Department of Transportation in Mayville, where he retired from.

He was a member of the Mayville Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and St Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville.

Bob enjoyed golfing, walks with his wife, deer hunting, elk hunting out west, helping neighbors and helping the community and spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren whom he was very proud of.

He is survived by his loving wife; Joyce Bentley Mathews, whom he married August 7, 1965, two children; Debra (Michael) Butler of Effingham, SC and Robert (Cynthia) Mathews of Columbia, SC, two granddaughters; Kayla and Jessica Butler of Effingham, SC, one sister; Louise Pipher of Ripley, NY, two brothers; Paul (Sonja) Mathews of Mayville, NY and William (Sheri) Mathews of Glendale, AZ, one niece, several nephews and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one niece; Darlene Marie Mathews and one brother in law; Dennis Pipher.

At Bob's request there will be no public services observed. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
