CHAUTAUQUA – Ross D. Cowles, 93, formerly of Stedman and Mayville, died Saturday (March 5, 2016) at Lutheran Social Services in Jamestown, NY.
He was born August 16, 1922 in Stedman, NY, the son of the late Archie and Lucille Davis Cowles.
Ross was the Payroll Supervisor for 19 years for Chautauqua Institution, he also did hotel work for 20 years.
He was a member of Hurlbut Memorial Community United Methodist Church where he was the financial secretary/ treasurer at church for several years. He had also been the financial secretary and treasurer at the Methodist House in Chautauqua.
Ross enjoyed traveling overseas, music and the arts, walking, being a volunteer aid at Westfield Memorial Hospital, the Office for the Aging, Portage Hill, and RSVP. He also had a great love for Chautauqua Institution.
He is survived by his sister Alys Cowles of Lakewood, NY; and two cousins, Carol White of Mayville and Nancy Card of Sherman.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday (June 16, 2016) at the Hurlbut Memorial Community United Methodist Church in Chautauqua, NY
