PANAMA – Ruth G. Russ, 96, of Burlington, NC, formerly of 102 Arcade Ave., Jamestown NY and Wesleyan Street, Panama, NY, died Saturday (Dec. 17, 2016) in Burlington NC where she resided with her daughter..
She was born January 5, 1920 in New Sewickley, PA, the daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor Alstadt Gerber.
Ruth was a 1936 graduate of Mayville High School, and she was a member of the Panama United Methodist Church.
She was a wonderful homemaker and good cook and she entertained many family and friends at her different homes. Ruth had many interests including reading, gardening, sewing, crocheting and puzzles. She will be greatly missed by all and especially her cat, Sally.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (John) Cole of Burlington, NC; six grandchildren, William (Nichol) Judson of Jamestown, NY, Jeremy Judson of North Collins, NY, Hope Cole and Grace Cole of Burlington, NC, Faith (Ed) Piskor and Eleanor Cole of Pittsburgh, PA; one brother, Leonard Gerber of Port Charlotte, FL; and a son in-law, Thomas Judson of Jamestown, NY and two great grandchildren: Liam and Blaz Judson of Jamestown, NY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Russ whom she married July 1, 1942 in Sinclairville and who died August 15, 2004; one daughter, Sandra Judson; two sisters, Martha Stanford and Alma Phillips.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Rev. Steven Taylor of the Panama United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Dewittville Cemetery
The family will receive from 10:00 to 11:00 am Thursday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
