Thomas F. Dornberger, 84, of Rochester, NY, and formerly of Mayville and Jamestown, NY, beloved husband, father, "PopPop," and friend, died September 12, 2023.  Born August 29, 1939, in Mayville, NY to Joseph and Helen Dornberger, Tom graduated from JCC and SUNY Fredonia and worked as an insurance adjuster and private investigator throughout Chautauqua County for many years until retiring to Rochester, NY to help care for his grandchildren.

Tom was a long-time cartoonist.  If you were amongst his many friends, he proudly showed you his drawings, talked about his grandsons, and was always, ALWAYS quick with a joke.

Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Dornberger of Rochester, NY, a son, Michael (Lori) Dornberger of Rochester, NY, a daughter Laura (Kate) McKay of Portland, NY, grandsons Zachary of Atlanta, GA and Brennan of Rochester, NY, Aaron Levy (Andrea Stewart) of Columbia, MD, a brother, Roger Dornberger of Michigan, several nieces and a nephew, and his best friend since childhood, David (Rosalie) Jerpe of Hummelstown, PA.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey K. Dornberger.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the St Mary of Lourdes RC Church in Mayville, NY (24 E. Chautauqua St). FR David Tourville will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice.  In Tom's memory, share a laugh with someone and smile when you think of him.
