Vesta Marie Reffner's Obituary
MAYVILLE – Vesta Marie "Betsy" Reffner, 86, of Lincoln St., Mayville, died Monday (February 8, 2016) in Westfield Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 24, 1929 in Altoona, PA, the daughter of the late Thomas and Vesta Prudence Swope Myers.
Betsy had been an investigator for the Department of Social Services of Chautauqua County in Mayville.
She was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mayville where she belonged to the Alter and Rosary Society, she had also been a Eucharistic Minister at church. She also belonged to the Visitation and Respite Ministry.
Betsy enjoyed sewing and quilting. She loved all of her family and looked forward to all family events.
She is survived by her husband, Richard W. Reffner whom she married August 28, 1950 in Altoona, PA.; four children, Deborah (David) Freay of Mayville, Richard (Vicki) Reffner of Perry, Karen (Scott) Gibson of Stuart, FL, and Nathaniel (Melanie) Reffner of Mayville, 16 grandchildren, James and Andrew Freay, Mary Jane Thomas, Christopher, Cory, and Matthew Reffner, Jillian Paddock, Jessica Rogers, Jeremiah Vosburgh, Joni-Sue Snyder, Meghan Gibson, Justin and Joseph Sprauer, McKaylee Cousul, David Douglas, and Heather Freeburg; 30 great grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Wallace of Philadelphia, and Helen Murphy of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Edward Myers of Myrtle Beach, SC and Russell Myers of Cincinnati, OH; and a special friend of the family Pennifer McCartney.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Atkinson and Eleanor Ergler; three brothers, Paul, John, and Donald Myers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mayville. Rev. Todd Remick will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Friday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mayville or to Mayville Fire Department Rescue Squad.
