MAYVILLE- A warrior to the end, Warren David Rammacher, 87, passed away Nov. 26. 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and an outstanding football, baseball and hockey player in his youth. He devoted his professional career to guiding young athletes in Chautauqua, N.Y., where he was a coach, physical education director and health instructor for 32 years.

Born Sept. 13, 1935, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Helen Jones and Warren Joseph Rammacher, Warren spent his childhood in Buffalo, and then moved to Angola, N.Y. He attended Lakeshore High School and left to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1954-1957, where he was honorably discharged.

He earned his bachelor of science in physical and health education from State University of New York College at Brockport in 1963. While at Brockport he lettered in baseball and football. He was invited to try out for a position with the Detroit Tigers and played in the Grape Belt baseball league. After graduating from Brockport, he received his physical education director certification from Ithaca College.

Warren began his teaching and coaching career in 1963 at Brocton Central School, Brocton, N.Y. He moved to Mayville, N.Y. in 1968 when he joined the staff at Chautauqua Central School (CCS), Chautauqua, N.Y. During the summers he attended coaching workshops taught by basketball legends Jim Boeheim, Bobby Knight and Mike Krzyzewski.

At CCS his boys' high school basketball teams won three Section 6 playoff titles. He also coached football, baseball and soccer and worked as a high school basketball referee. He remained at CCS until his retirement in 1995.

A dedicated sports fan, Warren was a loyal supporter of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. He experienced two holes-in-one and won numerous golf tournaments over the years. In 1992 and 1993 he was the club champion at Point Chautauqua Golf Course, where he also worked during retirement.

Warren served as a Village of Mayville trustee, held various positions on the Inner Lakes Federal Credit Union board for 32 years, and was a member of the Mayville American Legion and the Westfield Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed his visits to the Seneca Allegheny Casino, spending time with his family, and going to Florida in the winter.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Richard Rammacher and Robert Rammacher, and a sister, Ruth Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marguerite Chiavetta Rammacher, and children Tracy Rammacher of Cortland, N.Y., Stacy Rammacher (William Andrews) of Buffalo, N.Y., Warren Christopher Rammacher of Mayville, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Warren's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A celebration of his life will take place in the summer of 2023. Memorial donations may be made to the Special Olympics , the SUNY Brockport Athletics Department or Wounded Warriors .
