William J. Salisbury
William J. Salisbury, 91, of Clay, NY, formally of Mayville, NY; Buffalo, NY; and Fairfield, CT, died peacefully May 3rd, at Epworth Manor, Tyrone PA. Born in Mayville, NY, January 1, 1926, he was the son of Katherine (Acker) and Harry Salisbury. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Schultz) Salisbury.
William spent his youth growing up in Mayville, NY. He was a US Navy Veteran, having served proudly during WWII as a Radioman 2C in the European Theatre on the LST 289 and in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Perkins DD-877. He entered the war at age 17 which required his father's signature. After the war, he attended the University of Buffalo and Canisius College studying Economics and Accounting. During his accounting career he worked at Bell Aircraft Corp., Dun and Bradstreet Inc., The Welch Grape Juice Company Inc., Remington Rand Office Machines, Alex Lee Wallau, Inc. and Ryder Truck Rental, as well as being the former co-owner of Limited Edition by Salisbury, Inc.
Throughout his life, he was a member of the Mayville VFW Post 8647, the Mayville American Legion William L. Travis Post 493, the Peacock Lodge #696 F&AM Masonic Lodge in Mayville, NY, the American Contract Bridge League and the US LST Association. He enjoyed bowling, canning, golf, contract bridge and fishing.
He is survived by his daughter Katherine A. Marusa of Newtown, CT; his grandson David J. Marusa of New Cumberland, PA; his granddaughter Laura A. Brennan and her husband Michael of Newtown, CT; his grandson Michael A. Marusa and his wife Christie of State College, PA; his Great Grandchildren Kevin, Kelsey and Justin Brennan and Ryan and Jack Marusa; his nephews Dennis E. Schultz and his family of Clarence, NY and Jeffery Schultz and his family of Knoxville, TN; and his cousin Douglas Ahern and his wife Theodora of Penfield, NY. He was predeceased by his parents and his cherished sister June Salisbury Land and her husband Harold of Mayville, NY.
A Memorial Gathering with military honors will be held on May 27th at 3pm in Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, NY.
