Yvonne Jerman, Mayville, New York, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 in her home with her loving family at her side caring for her. Yvonne (Vonnie) was born in La Porte, Indiana, January 31, 1937 to Russell Crowell and Edith Crowell-Dodd, daughter to Thomas Dodd. She lived in Indiana, Florida, Maryland and made her home in Rockville, Maryland where she raised her four children.
Yvonne is survived by her four children Duncan Jerman Jr. of Colorado, Dana (Robert) Corwin of, Mayville, New York, Thomas Jerman of Chelmsford, Massachusetts and Sara (Doug) Sutphin of Frederick, Maryland. "Vonnie" is survived by her six grandchildren Claire, Emily and Sara Corwin of Mayville, New York, Robert Trent and Tyler Sutphin of Frederick, Maryland and Thomas Jerman of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, as well as her faithful companion Clementine, her cat. Yvonne is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Edith Dodd and sister Eva Marie Thornton.
Yvonne was a drafts person for C&P Telephone company in Washington, DC, one of the few women in this field in the 1950's. She was a beloved preschool teacher at Millian Memorial United Methodist Church in Rockville, Maryland for over two decades. With reputation as a caring, talented and dedicated teacher, she could be found on the floor working and playing with her 4-year old class. After retiring from teaching, she served as secretary for Millian United Methodist Church for many years.
Yvonne gave many years of service to her community and church. She served as a volunteer in every school her children attended. She was a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader. She was a dedicated member of the Eastern Star and Montgomery Cedarettes for which she served as president in 1988. She supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association for many years as an Auguste clown, "Pumpernickel" bringing joy and laughter as well as competing with her fellow Cedarettes.
Yvonne loved the Lord, had great faith and served her home church in many ways. She was an active and a long-time member of Millian Memorial United Methodist Church. She served on the building committee, board of trustees, alter guild, Sunday school, facilitated weddings, baptisms and funerals, and supported the youth programs, mission and outreach. She believed in serving as the hands and feet of Christ and completed multiple trips to West Virginia with Christian Appalachian Mission Project, Joining Other Youth, CAMP JOY, where with the church youth they helped those in less fortunate communities with home repairs, sharing her faith, and giving respect and friendship.
Yvonne was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend. We will truly miss her warm smile, the wonderful conversation, her extreme love of ice cream and how she opened her door and most of all her heart to welcome family and friend alike.
Celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mayville, New York August 20, 2017 at 2:00PM and in Rockville, Maryland at a later date. Memorial donations are suggested for your local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
